Established in 1933 by leaders in the veterinary profession, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is the only companion animal exclusive veterinary association in the U.S. and Canada. AAHA is well known for its high standards in veterinary medicine and quality pet care. The Association believes in setting “The Standard of Veterinary Excellence” and provides veterinary professionals with the resources they need to effectively manage their businesses and deliver the best in companion animal care.
The AAHA Accreditation process is rigorous and animal hospitals that choose to undergo this process must be evaluated in over 900 areas of veterinary medicine. These standards go above and beyond basic state regulations, ranging from patient care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, pain management, available pharmacy needs, safety, surgery, client service, anesthesia, continuing education, examination facilities, medical records, leadership, emergency/urgent care and more.
To maintain accredited status, hospitals undergo comprehensive on-site evaluations every three years.
